turning back the pages of my life
I remember
that spring day long ago
when, I was a young girl
and had a pretty new red dress
with a hat that had a red dotted ribbon
and was given five red fat dotted balloons
I recall the joy
of running through a wildflower field
with my precious balloons bouncing and following
the Queen Anne Lace
buttercups and daises tickled my legs
but who cared
I had red dotted balloons ...
for days I took care of them
was very careful to not burst them
then, one morning they lay flat
and I cried
until Mom came and blew them up again
but, of course,
eventually they faded away, as balloons do ...
