Meanings
This husband is double-crossing his wife and she is suspicious
That her ‘for better, for worse’ trusted husband is promiscuous
He is called before the gods of verdict and fate: some court session
To make him affirm before these gods: indeed a serious procession
She made him say that she was the only woman he was seeing
And only and only her, the suspicious wife, was that human being
The suspicious wife asked: “Am I the only woman you are seeing?”
The cheating man said: “Yes. You are the only woman I am seeing.”
“And swear by your soul that I am the only woman you are seeing”
“And I swear by my soul that you are the only woman I am seeing”
“And say I hope to die if you’re not the only woman I am seeing”
“And I hope to die if you are not the only woman I am seeing”
The woman lets out a sigh of relief and content for her bold attempt
The man chuckles ‘how many women am I seeing here?’ with contempt
And the gods of verdict and fate look at each other, powerlessly
For the promiscuous husband has answered so fine and faultlessly.
