Me and My Cousin
My cousin and I are diverse in many ways,
We look nothing alike; she is tall, I am short.
She is young, I am old.
She is cute, I used to be.
But we are alike in the ways that count.
We have integrity and a sense of fairness.
We love listening to singing, but neither of us sing.
We laugh loudly at things no one else thinks are funny.
We are soul cousins who appreciate each other's quirks and smirks.
The kids at school used to say "you can't be cousins".
When I asked why, it was because we were not the same color.
Then I would say, "We are soul cousins."
Even our boss, the principal understood our relationship.
She would ask me, "where is your cousin?"
Everyone in the school figured it out; we really are soul cousins.
