Marital Woes

For those of us who are married
We know how it often goes
Good days, bad ones and some
Common, annoying marital woes

I left a smidgen of toilet paper
Enough on the roll you can see
But then later when it’s my turn
Again, you left nothing for me

The toothpaste is out and rolled into a ball
I say throw it, it’s not worth squeezing it all
I yell to you but you don’t hear my shout
We sure find petty things to argue about

The dirty laundry is now piled high
You think it’s my job, not sure why?
I do remember when you shrunk my vest
And I told you then to just leave the rest

I tell you the rugs need to be vacuumed soon
You say forget it, it’s lunchtime, almost noon
After lunch, you bring your dirty dishes to the sink
And load them in the dishwasher that’s on the brink

We then sit together as we talk and laugh until we cry
And realize our time together is precious as it flies by
We then agree to disagree, we both can be wrong
Because we would be heartbroken if one of us was gone

So sweet, Tania - there are so many petty things and that's exactly what they are PETTY. A charming poem, so glad it was published in the 2020 PS Anthology

My husband's solution is this: Woman works everything inside and man outside. Sadly, that is about the way it all works out. Though I make him change lightbulbs and fix things!! Ugggg. GREAT poem

1 of my Dad's favorite sayings was Familiarity Breeds Contempt Such simple word's but so very true for so many Tania. Hazard a guess it annoys you more than them they know it and therefore play upon it. But speaking from experience its mind numbingly annoying.

Love this, Tania. I've always said, why bicker over the petty things, life is too short. I think most men let their wives handle the laundry (lol). Honestly, I don't mind doing it, it's the folding them up I just don't seem to do as well as she (lol)' Enjoyed this cute poem. Hugs Charlie

Tania, this is funny and then very beautiful in the end, yes, there are things a partner does that annoys but the worst thing that can happen is to turn around one day and he is gone forever and just a name engraved- Constance

That's why communication is so important. These may seem to be trivial issues but when allowed to build they can become a landslide. Sharing a home means sharing the responsibility, and LOTS of patience is required by both. Your honest write is a reminder of how we should act.

Oh you made me smile Tania and I know from friends who have lost their partner how they wish they were there even if they had these' marital woes' as you describe - the toilet paper one had me laughing, my son and hubby will change the roll but they are incapable of finishing the final sheets of the old one. lol:-)Adding this to my faves for a multitude of reasons!:-) hugs Jan xx
