Duke’s
leather
leash remains
where it always
hung on the hanger by the kitchen door. 
I feel lonely without him by my side
but his paw prints
are ingrained
in my
heart

I know the dates I lost both Blue and Lucky and both have been gone over ten years. Their deaths take part of your heart. Well done.

Your fiction sounds so true, I have to read the other comments to make sure my decision and comment would be correct. I got attached to one of my dogs, (real) and she died of Leukemia at thres years old, her heart was gold, I will never forget Coco, In fact it is listed as one of my best poem - Hello and Goodbye Coco.
