Mama's Kiss Goodbye
In Winter’s cold, on chill of air
Remains a frozen memory
A boy of eight, the streets of ice
To glide my path to school
The baker’s door of frosted pane
A beacon in its glacial glow
Would guide my footsteps fervently
To score a “Chocolate Twist”
The scurry of my frigid toes
To find my way to breakfast
Informed that I was ready
To brave another day
The working class of childhood days
Allowed no fancy cars
A frosty morn had faithful hope
The boiler would survive
I ask myself why thoughts abide
So sweetly of this bitter scene
It was the love, that warmed my heart,
In Mama’s kiss goodbye
