Make-Believe
Watching Christmas movies and pretending it is me
Sitting at the dinner table laughing with my sweet family
Listening to romantic serenades sung on the radio
Fantasizing it is me that they are loving so
Pretending my friend will come running through that door
When I am crying alone and curled up on the floor
Dusting clean the empty shelf where my trophies will be
My talents that are noticed that the world chooses to see
I never feel cold in bed since my love holds me tight
Or wake up feeling scared since I am not alone every night
My house is never clean for the kids leave toys all over the ground
Silence does not haunt me since they are always fooling around
Each memory that passes and does not line up with reality
Fills the empty, deep void with bittersweet make-believe
