Magical and Sweet

The lake was quite refreshing And my grandson loves to swim, But I don’t like the water So my husband went with him. The deep part was enticing; I watched nervously from shore, Prepared to leave at any time But Henry wanted more. Their hour in the water Looked like both were having fun, A lovely way to spend A summer day out in the sun. The time we have with grandkids Is both magical and sweet, Although I must admit That I am absolutely beat!

In one hour I am heading out on an eight hour road trip to Milwaukee with my 17 year old granddaughter, Molly. I am thrilled that she wants to be with her 70 year old grandmother for three days. She calls me AKG for "awesome kid grandma" - she labelled this on me when she was nine. I can see her essay as I type this. Enjoy HENRY!

Grandkids are the best, all the fun without the rest... :) You sound like a wonderful grandmother... God bless your days... and fill them with fun. Ann

Thank you, Ann! It’s hard to explain to someone how wonderful (and exhausting) it is to be a grandparent…

Ilene you nailed it the recovery is tough. Oh such fun when the little ones come to visit. Now I know it's best to have children when we are young. I can't keep up any more. Stay creative, Howard.

Thanks for the comment, Howard! Fellow grandparents can all relate to the exhaustion part…

It seems as though that's the common denominator in grandparent-grandkid relationships, Ilene. It can take weeks to recover from a couple days' visit.

That is very true, Milton! Definitely worth it, though, but an excellent reminder that we’re not so young anymore…

They would enjoy the water more with you in with them! Learn to float, and that is easy: just lie down on your back with your arms stretched over your head in "shark" formation and let your feet float to the top. Then bring your hands down to support your neck/head and that will prop up your elbows to curtail water splashing into your face! Have fun! (Enjoyed your poem though!)Aloha!

Thanks for the advice, Rico! I did learn to swim as a kid (although not with the proper breathing) but I have no desire to be in the water. I imagine if I lived in Hawaii, my attitude would be a lot different…

Sounds like a great day out but you're right Ilene they wear you out, they have so much energy. Tom

Yeah, it’s impossible to keep up with them unless they’re on their screens. Then I can sit and write a poem!
