Notes About The Poem

Edward Ibeh / This or That Volume 37

LUPINE

My life's been a 'he's become a broken, bumpy ride.'
I am not sure how many trips I can abide.
While he comes, goes, leaves and slips from my side,
I daydream about a smooth, gentle tide.
It is from our depths we did always confide.
Now his ways seem as secrets the night hides.

I truly need for him to give me clues
about his friends, Moony Trends and Mangled Blues.
Both characters only recently showed
and both seem volatile enough to explode.

He reinforced the cellar door with sandbags
on the outside where yard air is so sour, I gag.
Now he wants to cement the cellar ceiling
and place a bed down there in case a malady
renders him contagious and in need of healing.
I never know what is happening or how the
words 'trust me' are but sad and maddening.

Why does he look to me for assurance
when he self-sources every disturbance?
He has developed such a worrisome act
with reasons that loom vague and inexact.
Seems his sanity is disappearing
and something catastrophic is nearing.

"Why does he look to me for assurance when he self-sources every disturbance?" - A very powerful poem written in rhyme form. Congratulations!

P.S. I just wrote a poem about lycantropes, and I think this poem might have been tickling my subconscious mind.

You did really well in his contest. I think my brain takes things too literally. I can't go to places like this thinking of a word like lupine. Congrats, sweetie

Your story telling is flawless, a lupine howl, wow, woven in solid rhyme. "Mangled blues" I like that. Sending you both lambency! (lol)

This is sad, with some trauma inside. I hope it's fiction.

Wow! This is engaging and seems like a tormented experience! Amazing this was fiction for I’m sure it’s someone’s truth! Great job on a unique approach to the contest! Hugs CayCay!

Great job with the third stanza. Now it really makes my mind go to werewolf behavior. I think you did really well for the challenge

This has made me so sad if it is not fictional... ! Oh what a trauma, you must be having in handling such a person... I feel his anger and frustrated blues are symptomatic of dementia coming to have its hold on him. If it is imaginary, I must say you have the ability to make it a felt experience. Wonderful and so emotive. All the Best dear friend Cay Cay

PURELY FICTIONAL, VALSA, NO WORRIES. How sweet you are, thank you for your comments and concern. I always wonder how to react when I feel an emotionally devasting poem might not be fiction, so I begin comments with sincere, concerned wonderment.

Whoa!! This person seems like he might have some bad personality traits or has some brain chemistry out of balance or has a brain disease. Creative one for the contest. It reads like a good contender to me. Way to go. Sara K

If he's a werewolf, I would say you could both be in for hard times! Just as he makes you suffer with his anger and frustration blues, he must be feeling pain to, every month, when he feels those first extra hairs popping out of his forehead, and he can feel the kind of terror he's about to unleash. Maybe, you could make a monthly arrangement with the local kennel.

Your poem gave me goosebumps Caycay - it could be a werewolf or about someone who has mental health issues which are getting worse as time goes on. hugs jan xx

It looks like you took the werewolf approach? Actual wolves also have partners for life. I hope you got that I was personifying the wolf in my lupine poem. Your poem is very interesting. I have not seen anyone else take your approach, which makes it the most original
