Lullaby

Won’t your heart sing to me a saccharine lullaby? One that will make me feel whole again not one that makes me feel as though I’m going to die You know the one that your heart used to play for only me, the one that many a night I would be lulled to sleep with when you were holding me The one that made me feel coveted and adored, the one that made me feel as though I was the only one in your world The one that your heart couldn’t help but sing, because when I was lying in your arms there was nowhere else that you would rather be The one that your heart called into existence because you had finally found your dream, the one that you couldn’t fight because it was my melody The one that spoke for you when your lips knew not what to say, the one that I could be mesmerized by in those long-ago days I don’t need any other lullaby just the sound of the beating of your heart as I lie by your side, and listen to your breathing and your peaceful sighs The lullaby that I heard the last night that I was with you, knowing that tomorrow we would say goodbye, and never would I again hear those lulling notes that came from within you.
