Loyalty

Do you think loyalty is a dying quality Overrated and no longer required Are humans becoming to self absorbed Time only to self admire Do you think one can be too loyal Blind loyalty l believe is its name Or is there a line to be drawn When an honest finger points the blame I truly believe in and value loyalty I will always stand by your side Yet l feel loyalty is slowly dying Please tell me ….Has loyalty died?

I think blind loyalty is more predominant than true loyalty. The trite saying, "to thine own self be true", is a good place to begin. There are many different types of loyalty, and attempting to be loyal to everyone is not possible because of the misunderstanding of what loyalty is to each person. Everyone has their own ideal of what constitutes loyalty. I think loyalty to your individual truth is the most important type of loyalty. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and questions. Bill

A great question Deb. I think loyalty is alive and well when it comes to the American election process. Perhaps even blindly loyal. But when it comes to loyalty to its people, politicians are sorely lacking.

Hi Deb, it is true that loyalty is a quality fast dying ! But loyalty is a virtue greatly appreciated. If one is loyal to himself, definitely he will point his finger against what is wrong. Loyalty is neither blind obedience nor servility. We love friends who are loyal. Your poem gives much food fot thought.

I sometimes ponder the same question you do, Deb. I believe loyalty still exists, but perhaps loyalty's not seen as frequently because of our 'entitled' culture that seeks only to serve itself. Entitlement breeds disloyalty and discontent. Rambling thoughts. Enjoyed your poem. Have a lovely evening

I think for some loyalty is a dying quality, but there are still those who are loyal... we live in a fragile world.. so much is broken.. great poem on the subject Deb.

Don't mistake loyalty for blind obedience. Unfortunately there are people who don't have the same values as you. So they will play a game with what is allowed, and what is not. Or it was allowed in a past relationship they had, so they just carry it forward. People in my experience hate being transparent. And yet, transparent and direct sure make for less angst.
