Love

Love is like a street-lamp, on a cold moonless night; the glow, a warming sight we move toward as would a moth advancing on flame -- love can heal and maim… Love is like a buoyancy for one long treading and about to sink – only so much loneliness can gulping heart drink – love can be missed by a blink -- So, take a chance on love -- lips offered, the song played no matter time and place – love is a blessed grace though only the daring need apply and embrace – all we have to freely give and hopefully will receive for love can joy and grieve...

Love is ambivalent.... giving joy and grief. Like a moth flying to the flame and may get burnt, love too can lure one to its flaming passion, sometimes to be burnt outright. But love like street lamp in a moonless night is a glow that gives us warmth. Striking comparisons and apt images. A lovely poem dear Joe.

The world, its beauty, its strife, are all a product of the heart. If we propagate loving relationships, mother earth will respond kindly. Blessings my friend.

At times in our lives we come to crossroads where we have to choose, Love is the prize , but it can also be the demise, if we make the wrong choice. Your poem speaks volumes Joe. It speaks truth. Enjoyed, Best wishes from SV

So difficult to define love. I know people who stayed together though in a loveless situation, whilst others can hardly be satiated with love. Great poem.

Hi Victor; yes, like you say, difficult to define for everyone -- like blood pressure, higher and lower -- like weather, sunny and inclement -- like God relationship, often silent, no sign, needing faith. We must rely on the heart ultimately, not always a true barometer.

I really like the contrast between love, the street-lamp, and a moth advancing on flame. A terrific poem, Joe.

I love your two edged approach to the theme of love. Offering the light and shade. It's one of those subjects we can be one track minded about but as you put across so well love is bittersweet. A very insightful read.
