As a child I was walking home from school one day; It was a rainy spray; A direly day; We have gotten our report cards; As kids we were running home; In and out up and down; Crossing the streets; At the corners peak; Running hard and fast; Trying not to get wet; Out of my pocket fell my report card; I'm crying because I dropped ....... Down a storm drain, gone forever; Are the written documentation of my first A's and B's; Report card; That fell out my pocket In the rain fallen lost wet down inside the storm drain;

Hi James, Excellent poem, I could see it happening and you felt so proud taking it home to show mom and dad - and then suddenly it drops out of your pocket and into the drain - gone forever! Congratulations on your win in this contest, Poetry hugs, Jennifer.

Thank you Jen, didn't have many of those one's and two's report cards..most of them should've been eaten by the dog, washed in washing machine or dropped in a sewer drain..Ha! Ha!

made me smile James as we had students at school who would deliberately lose their reports as they were so dire lol:-) hugs jan xx

I had to laugh because I once accidentally put my report card down the side of a car window; and it never did come back. You can get a replacement, but it is not the REAL thing, and has a mean red stamp on it that says COPY. Great idea, James for this poetry prompt!
