Lost Friends
In my memory,
we are still best friends.
There are trips that we take,
sometimes daily,
as I escape the life...
I now have.
We go to the beach.
We go to the mountains...
We go everywhere, together,
as soul mates do.
I am lost to you.
I wish that I could return,
to the place we began,
and know that you
would be there waiting for me.
But that is just a dream,
and you are somewhere else,
with a family,
and friends...
of which I
am not,
counted among.
How the deep divide turned
our closeness into dust
is hard to say.
We all change,
every day.
Sometimes for the good,
sometimes not so well,
we move to the new,
and leave the old,
because we want to be bold,
but in the end,
we are less...
and just
old.
