Lost Forlornly in Space

Inspired by Iron Maiden’s “The Final Frontier: I am but one person on a mission that went wrong - locked out of the safety of the spaceship I was on. Black ink is spilled around me, vast and never-ending as into nothingness I find my body wending. The oxygen inside my tank will last perhaps six hours. I can see stars - stabs of light that twinkle not – cosmic flowers! Forlornness embraces me - a suffocating feeling so unlike my loved ones’ hugs. With gloom my brain is reeling. I travel in my mind to things I cherish most - my family and friends. To them I’ll be a ghost. A ghost forever floating in this upside-down endless sea which will be a graveyard of black surrounding me. God, I am imploring you as I drift and drift and drift, may I soon be in your light - my death both peaceful and swift.

Andrea, interesting description of this kind of tragedy for someone. Not a pleasant way to go for sure. At least I don't think this is in store for either of us. Smiles!!

Wow, Andrea! Congratulations on your big win! That would definitely be a big problem and your poem captures the fear so well! Astronauts have such amazing courage.

Your first place trophy placement is lost forlornly in space!!! I enjoyed your poem!!! Keep trying… maybe one day you’ll see your reflection in the trophy. Second place though is a really good position!

Enjoyed reading your poem Andrea. Astronomy is one of my hobbies. I am not an Iron Maiden fan but this poem could be a Star Trek episode:)

Honey, this blows me away in two ways. First, you are familiar with Iron Maiden? Second, as always, is the write itself, it is a perfect launching. I'd have to go to UTube and listen to a band I never got into so I'm just not feeling this contest. I must look up wending. Soup Mail. Love ... CayCay

I have never listened to this group, but I looked at lyrics of many songs and the song I based my poem on was the only one that made any sense to me!!!

Yep, that settles it. I will encourage none to be astronauts in my family. Well written my friend. Certain it will be unfortunate history for some poor soul in the future.

Ooh my kind of poetry. All alone in space, no hope for rescue, only the belief that there might be life after death. The coldness yet beauty of open space, the ultimate grave. Awesome write

Wow this is so different, not something i would have expected to read, for an iron maiden song, its so creative and unique and so imaginative and made me float too, and dream away as i read this! Worthy of a top placement! Too many brilliant lines especially that ending, made me feel something so deep! An exquisite take on the song! I dont know this song, the contest seems to be fillin up so i must soon write i suppose ugh have to go dark haha youv nailed it! Its a fave for me! Best wishes
