Listen to poem:

Looking Through Old Photographs

how memories mellow with time
nostalgia falls upon us all
days of youth awake from dreamy nights
warm feelings turn images to treasure

silent witnesses capturing still moments
creating a collage of mismatched flashes
a life holier than swiss cheese
yet still paints a wistful portrait

If a picture is worth a thousand words this poem is worth 10,000! Well written. I'm a pretty big nostalgic myself and it's gotten worse since my grandmother died. She was effectively my mom and raised me since I was a child. Sometimes I wish to go back to those times, but in life you can only move forward. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you so much for your lovely visit and comment, Christopher. Most appreciated. The one good thing about aging is that you know you will eventually meet up with your beloved departed. In the meantime we need to love the ones around us. Line xx

I look at old pictures and albums a lot; they are frequently donated to thrift stores, and I hate to see them just thrown away, as do the ones who donated them. This piece does a good job of explaining the thoughts behind it.

Thanks for your visit and comment, Amy. I am shocked that people give old photo albums to thrift stores!? They don't do that around here thankfully.

so lovely to look back and reminisce but also sad to see those no longer with us. we found old video footage of my son and transferred it to disc - wonderful to look back at those memories captured forever but 7 people are now no longer with us which made me sad. Good luck with the contest Line:-) hugs Jan xxx
