At the window she waits in loneliness
Moonlight glowing on the river below
she watches for the return of her love
Soft breezes blowing through the willows
accompanying the notes of a Pipa lute
playing an ancient somber melody
It carries to her upon the wind
She reaches her arms up to the stars
and sings of the longings within her heart
