Longevity -SK

Time speeds away, ages added on to eons, Piling changes on change, it moves on, Seldom posing lull and loll. With the current rushing swift and fleet, We race past from old to new From times primeval to times neoteric Watching the ceaseless chain of births and deaths, Tasting life’s vicissitudes of joy and pain. In the unwinding circuit of time How long is my sojourn here? 60, 70 or 100- that’s a man’s average longevity, Does it mean more than a mere drop in the ocean? Like the bubbling foam or the dying froth, We appear uninvited and depart unnoticed, Leaving no foot prints or monuments behind. Between the rows of forefathers who exited out And the countless progeny lining up, I have squeezed a space to be a face in the multitude. Does my longevity mean much? No..! All that counts is how well I have lived here.

So many truth unveiled in this wisdom-filled piece. "What matters is the life in our years not the years in our lives" as the saying goes. Congratulations dear Valsa ^____^

Dearest Valsa, your soulful words and vibrant images gave me pause to think on each one of us who is here right now I remembered a sermon I heard that said: "each of us is needed and each of us is necessary" along with Mordecai's quote to Esther: "We have come for such a time as this." And, indeed, we are called to live well with the days and hours gifted us with the work of our hands! Best wishes for the contest. Blessings for the work of your hands, dear friend. You make a difference!

Theres wisdom and understanding in your poem written about identity. So much that made me pause and reflect dear sweet Valsa, especially "We appear uninvited and depart unnoticed, Leaving no foot prints or monuments behind." how true is that?? I cant help but agree with you. All that matters is how well we lived, and you dear valsa, you will be remembered for you made so many of us feel through your poetry and presence... pleasure reading your poem. This is a fave for me! Sending u light always

Very very true this is such great writing, Valsa. There is an expression something like this. You never die as long as friends or relatives are alive to keep you in their memory. My mom is 93 now and fairly healthy. My dad would be old too if his doctor had not killed him indirectly with malpractice. I have no idea how long I will live. I believe we are destined to a certain date much like our birthday was written in the stars!

"In the unwinding circuit of time How long is my sojourn here?" -- "Between the rows of forefathers who exited out And the countless progeny lining up, I have squeezed a space to be a face in the multitude." Wow, great writing!

The poem flows smoothly and gets its point across. Being compared to a "drop in the ocean" or "bubbling foam" is a powerful and moving metaphor. Although it evokes strong feelings, it makes the reader think about their own life and the impact they'll leave behind. Good luck with the contest
