Long Summer Days

Long summer days Sittin' around with nothin' to do We were already fifteen Should we have gone to the zoo? Long summer days Loungin' round feelin' blue Too young for a job Should we have ducked in and watched the tube? Long summer days Nothin' but soaps on the tube It was a time before video games A time before Rubik's Cube Long summer days Too old to be a camper Too young to be a counselor On us, life put a definite damper Long summer days Pollution and alewives spoiled the lake Cost too much to go the pool Might as well head back to school Oh, those long summer days Those hot summer days Those long, hot summer days...

Yup ... even if the memories aren't always the greatest, they still take us back to those days of our relative innocence, don't they? ~ gw

I worked since I was a little kid so I always envied other kids even the bored ones that had those long summer days. My mom and us 3 kids escaped my dad once for two weeks and we got to be regular kids for that time. It’s one of my best childhood memories. Sadly he found us.

Those dads!! They're always spoiling things. (Like I do for my kids)... That's why we've got mom AND dad I guess: to balance work and play, ... unless dear old dad tips the scales ... Thanks for the visit, Richard! ~ gw

Poor you!1 when I was 15 - summer was work - house-keeping for dad and growing and preserving all our fruit and vege for winter. I dreamed about wandering about - quiet place to read or play with others. Joking aside - enjoyable read and well penned as usual.

Credit your parents with keeping you occupied and productive. I guess the parents in my neck of the woods didn't feel much obligation/responsibility for their 'in-betweeners,' i.e., too old for camp and too young for a real non-cash-paying job. Thanks for checking this one out, Virginia! :) gw

And brilliant days they were, People actually spoke to each other. Now people are very anti-social, too wrapped up in tech gadgets. Tom
