Little Charlie and His Halloween Adventure

Little Charlie was a seven year old who was picked on in school because of his height. Some of the kids would poke fun at him and call him Shorty Charlie. His buddy Brian would always tell the bullies to knock it off. Charlie always felt awkward because Brian would always come to his rescue and he himself wanted to stand up to the Bullies... Charlie lacked confidence and he dreamed for the day of getting even with them. Bobby the Bully had it in for him. Charlie couldn't wait for Halloween because he was going to dress up like a Superhero Superman and walk on stilts and be tall and Powerful and get even with Bobby and his accomplices. He thought that's what he must do to stop them from bullying him. He couldn't wait for Halloween. Halloween had finally arrived and Charlie and Brian headed out together as best friends Trick Or Treating. Then afterwards to a School Halloween Party. The Night was Erie as the Full Moon shined, as Little Charlie had one thing on his mind. The two boys headed into the dark of the Night. Tired of being made fun of. He was going to do what was right. Walking as Superman with stilts on his feet. Gave him confidence to win and achieve. His poor little feet hurt as he walked on those stilts. He had to endure because of his strong will. Brian said to Charlie, "You don't have to do this." Charlie replied, "Thanks Brian, but I'm not a sis." Just when he said this he looked up to see. It was Bobby the Bully getting a Treat. He knew it was him from the sound of his voice. As he shook inside to confront this bad boy. He got scared for a moment, as he was going to confront. Then approached him like he had never done. Like Superman he asked Bobby "Do you know who this is?" Bobby had a puzzled demeanor, and asked, "Who is This?" " I am Superman to you." Charlie replied, and landed a punch to Bobby's right eye. Bobby fell to the ground and started to cry. Charlie took his stilts and mask off, and asked, "Are you all right?!" When Bobby saw who it was, he said," Is that you Charlie?" Charlie responded, " I am Superman to you, Bobby." Michael Tor

I grew up with the same problems as Little Charlie, unfortunately I never got the chance to get even with those bullies... And, as Evelyn commented, I loved the satisfying ending of your poem, knowing that he found the confidence to stand up... Keep the great writes coming, Michael!

Thank you Kelly so sad you had to go through this. I hear that from so many people. So sad for humanity there are so many bullies. I hope in time they all learn their lessons. God bless and thank you for your inspiring comment...

Great story, Michael. Kind of reminds me of myself. I was always the smallest kid in school but unlike the Charlie you wrote about I was opposite; I was the bully's bully. I loved to fight, and my reputation spread because the only kids I fought were the kids that bullied other kids. I was small but crazy and fearless (lol) fought dozens of times...never lost!

Charlie when I wrote this, I was searching in my mind a name with a good character I thought you Charlie , because you have been such a hard worker in carpet installations. Is that crazy or what. You and I Charlie, we have very much alike backgrounds. So glad you liked this I am sure it brought back some memories my friend. I am glad you never lost. It means you had heart, and that is stronger than anything... The things we go through in life as kids. I know I have stood up to many bullies and kicked some ass. lol. I grew up in the mean streets of Rochester NY during the civil rights movement...

Michael, you always come up with thrilling stories and you are able to get into the shoes of the characters you describe. Here I can imagine the resentment of Charlie for being bullied all the time. Naturally he longs for a time to show an upper hand. On the day of Halloween, as he had longed he vanquished Bobby, his adversary- A very enjoyable account!

Love the story Michael of Charlie’s Halloween adventure and of how he stood tall against bully boy Bobby. I believe bullies will always receive just rewards and so they should. As others here have said your tales should go into a book to be read… Belle

You always have fascinating things to tell us, and I encourage you to gather them all into a book because I believe you have what it takes to be a best-selling author. Thank you for sharing such an inspiring tale,  you did an excellent job on this story. Children, as much as adults, have the potential to be horrible abusers. Even without his stilts, the youngster felt mercy while remaining strong.

I love the end to this! Sounds like something a young boy would say with something in his craw. The boy showed compassion but still stood strong, even off his stilts.

SO cute (as revenge poems go) it's strange but when I was a child, I wrote a story about kids getting revenge by dressing up for Halloween and using stilts!!

My daughter was often bullied and my advice to her was always "Talk to the wall, it will not reply". Soon most became friends and she the darling of the school. Today she is an Assisent Head in a school, and everyone is afraid of her. Lovely story.

Kudos! Michael. Thanks for a poem with a punch! Being the smallest boy in every grade from 1st through my senior year, I was often called shorty, peewee, little billy and sometimes (especially by my older sister) bitsy. Even the girls were always taller than me. I was so happy my Freshman year of college when I finally reached 5 feet tall, and hit the 100 lb weight. Fortunately for me, my father, a boxer in the Navy, taugh me how to defend myself. I was bullied once each year. Bill

Good for him! Sometimes that's the only way a kid can stop someone from bullying him...a good right to the jaw, or, a black eye!
