Linger

...like the stirring wants of summer eves
                           that slumber in naked beds
that hold our attention from heart to head
linger
like the soft full lips that speak the neon tension
                                                                        of need
that give us light and motion

intimacy that beautifies what the earth has
                                            lost in smoke and war
linger easefully on my chest
lover
with anthems of lore in a spirited telling
that bind us in the seeds they sow
that the languid moon might own
for the voice I hear this passing night
             rich with racing wine
             lingers with its tasting
when all the bobs and buds of touch
bubble like the rain

Hi Sara, You are most thoughtful to see the romance in my lines, views much valued as (to some) my poem overstretches itself into taboo areas. Many thanks, Brian

This is so lovely.... I feel as if I am levitated from the tangible world to a world of dream. So many thoughts linger in our minds when we hear anthems of lore and these memories make the night beautiful. Lovely poem dear friend. Congratulations on your win.

Greetings dear Susan, So very kind of you to drop by + comment approvingly on my posting. Heaps of thank you's. My relationship poems tend to receive a lukewarm reception unlike my nature pieces which invite favourable reviews. Hence your inspiring words are a true highlight of this day. I hope that you are well + enjoying family time in this summer of hardy heat. Best wishes always, Brian
