Limerence
I set the game up.
I lost the only love I’ve ever known.
I never learned to play by the rules,
I had to learn them on my own.
I planted seeds in a garden
That was never mine.
In my mind, I watered it alone.
And now I watch as the flowers die.
Because they are all overgrown.
Now you know all of my demons,
And you can call them by my name.
Your eyes can see right through me,
Clouded by my shame.
I feel like a scared child running through a maze.
Frightened by the echoes of your voice
Calling out my name.
Each step you take to me
Makes me want to run away
You are holding up a mirror to all of my mistakes.
They say don’t chase.
Love should come easy.
But I’ve been standing here waiting,
Hoping that he sees me.
Now all of the signs point to, “she’s crazy.”
As you run to someone new.
I drown in the silence
As my lips are turning blue.
I thought I had my guard up
But somehow you broke through.
I never needed you to save me
But what if you do?
I’ll go back to my defenses
And paint the walls a shade of maroon.
I’ll stay grounded in my temple
And whisper my wishes to the moon.
Were you collecting pieces of my soul
Just to watch me bleed?
Now all of my scars are open
And I watch you as you leave.
