Limbs Exposed
Green leaves change color in Autumn,
tinting trees from top to bottom.
And while the kids whoop and holler,
come Autumn, green leaves change color.
As greens disappear, reds abound,
and orange hues litter the ground.
Preparing for Autumn's premiere;
reds abound, as greens disappear.
Crimson and gold atop the trees,
edge leaves, fluttering in the breeze.
Autumn's beauty never grows old:
atop the trees, crimson and gold.
Etched on glass panes: crystals of ice
form feathered swirls, sharp and precise.
For, on cold nights, Jack Frost chisels
crystals of ice, etched on glass panes.
The trees stand bare, stripped of their leaves:
as Autumn winds morph into thieves.
And with limbs exposed everywhere,
stripped of their leaves, the trees stand bare.
