Like We Use To

Kiss me like you use to Hold me like you still care Pretend like we're brand new Need to think your always there Let's talk like when we first met Touch me like way back when Comfort me like when I'm upset Remember how we were then Pretend it's our very first date Your kiss took away my breath I refuse to think that it's too late Our love has not met it's death Just touch me like you once did Tease me like you did before It seems like we were just kids As we swore love forever more

That's the secret, and the most difficult part, to remain as "just kids" amid the onslaught of years. In a good way, this poem made me feel young again and freshly alive. Great read!

I was literally singing my way through this one. I really think you could set it to music. Neil Sedaka came to mind as the singer, among others. :) gw

Gershon it's funny that you say that because every time I read it I sing it too! Dang I can't remember the name of the song I get the melody from! See still making me smile!;)

Brenda, this is so lovely and bittersweet! This could be the theme song of so many long-married couples! Janice

Nicely written, Bren, this has a melancholy feel to it. It is hard trying to relight a spark after the embers have turned to ashes. All the best my dear friend. Hugs, John
