Bittersweet, Like Ice Cream
There are times when friendship feels like ice cream to me—
Sweet and welcome in its simplicity.
People come with flavors of their own,
Bound in joy,
Yet sometimes pulled apart by mistakes unknown.
Ice cream comes in many kinds,
And no one dares to leave it behind.
It cools our thirst on the hottest days—
A comfort in the sun’s relentless blaze.
But just like ice cream slowly melts away,
People’s moods and hearts can shift someday.
And what was once a perfect shape,
May need time and space to recreate.
For those whose lives have been reversed,
Who carry pain or wear a curse—
Sometimes distance is what they seek,
To cool the wounds they cannot speak.
Though some have wronged or hurt me deep,
My love for them I choose to keep.
I find my peace in letting go,
Yet in my heart, they still gently glow.
I'll strive to live with open grace,
To show love's light in every face.
Like the lingering taste of a favorite treat—
Sweet, sincere, and quietly complete.
Now and forever,
I’ll always recall—
That somewhere in my past,
I met them all.

Author’s Note:
“Bittersweet, Like Ice Cream” is a reflection on the delicate nature of relationships—how they bring joy, comfort, and warmth, yet can melt and change over time. Through the metaphor of ice cream, I explore how people grow apart, heal, and still carry traces of love and memory. No matter the distance or pain, kindness and forgiveness can leave a lasting sweetness—just like a flavor we never forget.
