Bittersweet, Like Ice Cream

Sometimes, friendship feels like ice cream— Sweet and simple, a welcome dream. People come with flavors rare, Bound by joy, yet fragile care. Ice cream comes in many kinds, No one wants to leave behind. It cools our thirst on blazing days— A comfort in the sun’s fierce blaze. But like ice cream, slow to melt, Hearts can shift, and pain is felt. What once was whole may break apart, Needing space to heal the heart. For those whose lives are reversed, Who carry wounds, or feel accursed— Sometimes distance is the balm, To soothe the hurt, restore the calm. Though some have caused me deepest pain, My love for them I still retain. I find my peace in letting go, Yet in my heart, their embers glow. I strive to live with open grace, To show love’s light on every face. Like lingering taste of a favorite treat— Sweet, sincere, and softly complete. Now and always, I’ll recall— Within my past, I met them all.
