Lift Me

Lift me When light has fled And dark consumes my head When colors lie in fractured rays My vision diminished to splintered grays Leaving me blind to blue and red When I'm collapsed beneath The weight of grief Lift me 2/09/22 Give me a Rictameter! contest Sponsor: M.L. Kiser First Place

Beautiful, even though I can feel the weight of a sad situation, I find it uplifting. The reader feels and wants to reach out with words of reassurance. ~ Regards // paul

Dear Michelle, my best wishes to your sister for the soul darkness she is having to endure. Sometimes poets are called upon to ascribe words to the undefinable aspects of life, and you have done so tenderly and beautifully here. Congrats for your top placement and heartfelt thanks for gracing us with your excellent poetry.

Well done! Experienced grief and so your description is apt. And it is not necessarily others who lift us but God himself.

These muted tones you paint so well, Michelle. I detected a thread of parallel settings between this one and your poem Emptiness. "The insensate pain of intangible touch" connects with the loss of color and light described here. I am reminded of the poem within the song Nights in White Satin - "cold-hearted orb that rules the night / removes the colors from our sight / red is gray, and yellow, white..." I love the rhymes you have chosen and the somber vibe, also the hope of one to "lift me".

I had a conversation with my sister recently about her depression, and she said she was in such a dark place there were no colors, so that is what led to this poem. I am so touched by your caring comment, John, and I do love the song 'Nights in White Satin', am very flattered by the comparison!

A very deep meaningful write - grief has a grey shadow which can be all encompassing, blinding us to anyone or anything else in our lives at that particular time or moment. We need a helping hand. An excellent entry for the contest, good luck my friend, Hugs and blessings, Jennifer.

Enjoyed all but "Lift me". Your writing is excellent, but I much prefer an "up I go" philosophy to one of "lift me!" Aloha!

You have got the touch, Michelle: 'Fractured rays and splintered grays' go together like a horseless carriage. Pure poesy! Huzzah! ~ Gershon
