Lifelong Friends
They had not seen each other for over two years
But their habits were the same; they were early risers.
They met on the beach and took a quick walk
Before their lovers awoke.
They were dressed in beach dresses, both barefooted.
Sharing secrets and laughing over shared memories.
Winnie remembered more of their childhood than Suzette.
So she did the talking, as they frolicked among the waves.
Their children were the first to hear them; it woke them.
They began running toward their mothers, wearing their pajamas.
Dance in the waves! Their mothers coaxed them.
The children were delighted, never seeing their mothers as girls before.
The husbands were watching from the porch within the hour,
Watching their wives, skipping and dancing like children.
Hearing the happy laughter of their offspring.
Glad they had agreed to this week on the beach.
