Life Is a Doorway, and Not a Destination

A poet cannot be frugal, miserly with his thoughts and feeling; but, indeed, a rabid spendthrift, where there are matters of the heart – a radiating sun when his soul uncovered... though we are beings of vast contrast, Light when Write, painfully dark when venturing into silent shadows – those aching lulls when muted – the thunder when speaking with God-like temperament, pianissimos, fortified by deep breaths of character possessing blazing conviction – a poet, atypical in his world as the priest who bravely ventures outside his scriptures, having realized faith a doorway and not a cloistered prison....

You’ve no idea how amazingly this fits the conversation I had today. Right now the discussion about the nature of what is involved in being a poet is central to my thinking. This poem, I think, is marvelously composed in truth. Bravo! I love it. A Fav for sure xox

Marvelous piece, Joe, particularly well-written. I loved the musical notation references, too. Good stuff!!!!

Thank you, Milton; I love to sing...and my wife, Ila, taught music and art on all levels. So, we have a noisy household. Fortunately, my neigbor takes in stray dogs, some rather large and loud ones -- it is a Mexican Standoff (Oops, am I aloud to say that anymore?). I've got a couple stray cats also...so, what the heck.

Hi Heidi; I just generally fly with it, start writing...and when I get a couple of words that reverberate within me, then I have my foundation for a themed approach. Not always, naturally, but this time it seemed to work fairly well. Thank you so much for the encouragement. Blessings.
