“I'm a supporter of gay rights. And not a closet supporter either. From the time I was a kid, I have never been able to understand attacks upon the gay community. There are so many qualities that make up a human being... by the time I get through with all the things that I really admire about people, what they do with their private parts is probably so low on the list that it is irrelevant.” Quote by Paul Newman The title of this poem makes no sense to me. The people referred to aren’t huddled in one community. Each person on God’s earth is different don’t you see, Its impossible to put us all under just one category. I think I am short of a chromosome somewhere, Because I don’t see the difference, simply not aware. People are people that’s all there is to say. Straight or gay, bi or not, its not for me to judge today. Those born in a body in which they don’t belong, Have a different kind of problem and its so wrong. We can make it easier for children born this way, Provide same sex toilets, at school and where they play. Educate kids to see no wrong, this goes a long way. Its too late for some adults to understand today, Quoting a book that says it’s a sin to be different within. Love is acceptance, of all folk, this we need to begin. Slowly times are changing, but the time is now. Lets have compassion for one another, take a vow. No more shock horror when your friend says “I’m gay" If its your child, they will still need your love every day. I hear you say, “but it hasn’t happened to you” Yes I agree that’s very true. I know if it did I would feel the same. No way I would feel the slightest shame. Hope the time comes we can announce it with pride. There’s no need to come out, cause the door is open wide. Wouldn’t it be a nice world if it didn’t matter gay or straight, Black, brown yellow or pink, believe me I can hardly wait.
