Letting Go

Lisa Hiatt ~Dark Poetess Contest Name Letting go Letting go Letting go of momma at the breast, Says “eat your corn meat fritters , pest.” (fried scone) Stagger lonesome off to school, teacher says I’m such a fool, guess he knows the best? Leaving home, all strangers, blest, Living in me car, sort of, homeless, Army got me, jerked me in, Lots of shouting, Sergeant grim, Offered to punch out the pest, Straight left right cross, duck the rest, Rolling in the dirtiness, Sprang up shadow sparring, yes, Peeling taters for a rest. Mortuary, on the chilly side , Cool enough on me bloody hide, Died of old-age-suicide, Perhaps I’ll go back west:) Don Johnson

This is such a deep and powerful write. Full of imagery and soul. Gets the reader thinking about life and death. Good job

This is a very interesting write my friend! You have written a wonderful poem here Don! So will you die of old-age-suicide?...interesting combination there! I rather like the line, "Peeling taters for a rest" telling of your wonderful punishment for fighting, great reference! I love your write that you have written! Awesome Work!!
