Letting Go
Lisa Hiatt ~Dark Poetess
Contest Name Letting go
Letting go
Letting go of momma at the breast,
Says “eat your corn meat fritters , pest.” (fried scone)
Stagger lonesome off to school,
teacher says I’m such a fool,
guess he knows the best?
Leaving home, all strangers, blest,
Living in me car, sort of, homeless,
Army got me, jerked me in,
Lots of shouting, Sergeant grim,
Offered to punch out the pest,
Straight left right cross, duck the rest,
Rolling in the dirtiness,
Sprang up shadow sparring, yes,
Peeling taters for a rest.
Mortuary, on the chilly side ,
Cool enough on me bloody hide,
Died of old-age-suicide,
Perhaps I’ll go back west:)
