Madame Brooke was proud of her ten different cats.
She fed them the finest canned food but never on rats.
Each day when the weather was warm she had her routine,
Twice a day, with their favourite food and water clean.
Each cat had its particular taste and never fought
To eat from other's special plates, for so Madame taught.
Each cat had two clean bowls and all specially chosen,
Food with chicken, turkey, anchovies, no rules broken.
One red bowl filled with tasty mash, the blue with water
Poured out from a clean kettle as her mother taught her.
Then, being Spring, round the pool she'd lay her double bowls,
Go to rest on her bench, watching the boys with their rods
Fishing and playing along the far shore of the lake
Which she loved and take note that none suffered for their sake.
