Listen to poem:
Always rushing Always faster At times I thought I had it coming That one day due to my impatience I may be struck blind and forced To learn my lessons the hard way Not taking life so seriously Stop to savor moments Sometimes stay on the sidelines Instead of always racing around the track But the Universe has a master plan Such that our little ones pale by comparison We never know what awaits us Were I to lose my vision I’d have no choice but to slow down No choice but to adjust and in a strange way That would indeed be relatively easier No I was meant to tackle more complex lessons Up my skills in sensitivity and empathy While learning about patience as it turns out Since the one losing his vision is my spouse AP: Honorable Mention 2020 Submitted on February 8, 2018
