Lay Weapons Down

The election is done.
The results have come and gone.
It no longer matters who won.
It's decided, right or wrong.

Those of us, who voted our choice.
Did what we could do.
It was the way to have a voice.
Hoping it would find it's way through.

Our nation is divided, either friend or foe.
Political parties are at war.
Does anyone really know
what we continue to fight for?

It is time to lay weapons down.
Putting away the hateful words.
We need to meet on common ground.
And stop arguing it all to absurds.

Our opinions are our own,
based on what we believe is true.
But those that are overblown,
will be heard and considered by few.

We can rationalize what we believe,
until we no longer see what is real.
How can we expect to receive,
any satisfaction we hope to feel?

Isn't it time for there to be peace,
within this country we love?
Let all the fighting cease,
let it fly on the wings of a dove.

I am not American but I think we all want the same thing. Since I am new to P.S. I don't know about issues here. But I do know we could all have peace if we share peace. Thankyou for the poem.
