Laurel Lady
after work we gather for a bit of flute playing and dancing
I am tired after work, I begged off several times
They stopped inviting me.
my grandmother was disappointed
She wants me to be popular
you really should try it, she said
she was a dancer, she is tall, not a gnome like me
I lie about my height saying I am five foot two and a half
I am actually five one and three quarters
it is a weird thing to lie about, but it works for me
finally I broke down
curious to see what had bonded my co-workers
they were always giving sly looks and laughing
like they had private jokes
because they did
they were glad to include me
I had a two drinks
which is way over my tolerance limit
these pink ladies uninhibited me.
there was instant equanimity between us
I put a laurel on my head and danced my heels off
it only happened once, but it helped me to be included forever after.
