Notes About The Poem

Last Train To Auschwitz

A vast sea of doomed, 
            skeletal walking dead
                   board a train 
             bound for Auschwitz; 
             of the 1,019 aboard, 
               549 were children. 
          The last ride of their lives.
    Many too numb to show emotions!
                Even before that,
               families separated;
                   little children 
        forced to watch their parents 
        coldly executed by SS forces,
            before being executed 
                    themselves.
                   Upon arrival, 
               tens of thousands 
                     packed in 
              at gassing facilities 
                  like sardines.
                  Just imagine...
                the sheer terror 
            of their last moments!
                 How loud were 
           their collective screams 
 before they perished? Oh, the horror!
        The mass murder of civilians 
              and prisoners of war.
                 Indelible images...
               of unspeakable evil!


Note: This was obviously written for Kai Michael Neumann's contest, 
but someone beat me for last spot within minutes, but oh well...lol
