Listen to poem:
Sparks aflame my sanctuary Flickering, roaming glints Over valleys of bygone years So long kept in shadows Traversing the bleakest darkness Where heat of love evades As the cool of Prussian blue night Forms a silky silent shroud Unravelling threads of sorrow's blinding Guiding me from night to day And through the hush, a glow emerges Soft as songbird's first breath Now embered dreams ignite ahead The past melts in morning's hue And where the lantern's light has led Hope rekindles burning true

Dear Sam,Wow, this is absolutely beautiful! The imagery is so vivid—it feels like watching a soul awaken from darkness into light. The way you weave emotions through fire, shadows, and dawn is breathtaking. I love how it moves from sorrow to hope, with that final stanza shining so brightly. You have such a gift for painting emotions with your words and narration...Hugs

Love the alliteration, the first line “Sparks aflame my sanctuary,” - yes a safe place sent aflame, yet also I think of a church’s sanctuary. “the cool of Prussian blue night” its imagery stands out and sounds lovely, where I stop to ponder. I can feel the change “ And through the hush, a glow emerges Soft as songbird's first breath” Final 2 lines love imagery of the lantern.

Thank you Kim. Many of these delicious images come from the pen and creative energy of my fellow poet, Christina. It is an evocative painting full of symbolism and we thought matched the words suitably. Very appreciative of your generous comments. Blessings Sx

Image: The Light of the World, painting by William Holman Hunt. We focus on the lamp here; intricately designed for the observer to reflect on the heavenly expanse of stars and galaxies and the light held therein. Hunt created three versions of this painting, with the most well-known one housed in St. Paul’s Cathedral in London. Another in Manchester Museum. The work is full of rich symbolism, inspired by Revelation 3:20
