Landscapes - Picturesque Burano

Where to place the rippling paint upon
the whitish canvas, setting on a beast of burden,
with a palette of bright watery pastels loaded
Like a multicolored flower, a masterpiece of its own,
lifting the paint and pulling, the first stroke
I am bristling with excitement of where,
this crosshatching idea of a painting should go
Squeezing the crinkled tube to add
another color to cover my Venetian lagoon
Dry brushing a marmalade sunset sinking, into a greenish sea
Nakedly dipping into shades, that only I can only imagine,
casting a little shade here and there cannot hurt
Mistakes are easily hidden with a few strokes
The undertone is on purpose, for the commission
comes from Lady Contesta, a lacey discreet love
To bring this, stippling but quaint portrait, to an end
I sign with my secret pen near the gondola,
on the bricola, Burano

My sis is a wonderful, well-known pastel artist, (my mom a renown watercolorist), so this subject is dear to me ... what a lovely poem you've put together here, and a beautiful picture in my mind - that's where true art takes place - our imaginations - and you have aimed this perfectly! Congrats - loved it!
