Knitting Pains

KNITTING PAINS Knitting caused me childhood pain Made my arms ache again and again No matter what the garment made I always had to be mum’s aid Holding the wool, arms wide-stretched - Oh, the ache is in my muscles etched – Till she wound it into balls To knit it into scarves or shawls Oh how I longed to drop my arm But this would spring her wool alarm And if the winding was to stop She went to buy more at the shop ‘Twas plain, purl or Fair Isle. Today I don’t know where I’ll Get such lovely clothes again - In spite of all the recalled pain.
