Congratulations on your fine win, Jan. The topic you chose is one that needs highlighting, because though autism is quite common, not many people know what it really is, while some parents refuse to acknowledge it when it affects their own children. Hugs // paul

I do support work on a casual basis at home where there is grown man with Autism. Good piece to highlight job the parents do and an issue that requires great sacrifices and dealing with frustrations and questions not yet answered with sainthood for some. Best wishes as always David in NZ

Thanks David, it is so easy to judge when people do not know the underlying issues for what is seen as poor behaviour, i am unsure if this will place as I think its more on advice rather than supporting and comforting the parents but I write from the heart on this subject:-) hugs jan xx

I love how you touched on a very prevalent thing today . Too many Americans deal with this problem. a few are in my own family (my sisters') It's a sad and hard thing to live with. JAn, how are you doing today. I finally got caught up here . Now to clean the house!! So we can do more than one kimo??

Jan, such a needed and sensitive write. I have friends dealing with this right now. So many in our world are impatient and unkind. So quick to judge.. so say something behind someone's back, or confront harshly. These parents are saints. I can't even imagine the grace needed to deal with such a matter!

I worked with autistic students for over 16 years and have such respect for their parents. I wish people wouldn't be so judgemental when they don't know the facts only what they see :-( hugs jan xx

It must be very difficult and frustrating to raise a child on the autism spectrum. I am glad I was spared that experience. Good poem.

Thanks Agnes, and because on the outside the child seems 'normal' people don't realise the child has additional needs:-( hugs Jan xx

I think this is great! This is comfort for the parents who have the world looking in and are feeling judged harshly for things they cannot control. But they are doing the best they can, and it takes love and patience to do it. hugsx

We humans are such an ungrateful race. No understanding or love among many of us with illness or problems that exist. They have no patience but should remember, "There but for the grace of God, go I."

I think a lack of education regarding kids with special needs has a lot to do with not understanding behavioral issues that are displayed:-( hugs Jan xx

I agree Jan. Most people see the bad behavior and judge that but have no idea WHY this child is behaving this way. Sometimes it's the parent's fault for not insisting the child take his medication. Sometimes the child is just spoiled. We never really know what is going on so we can't really judge either way. Great insight here. Well Done. God Bless, JB

Thanks Judy you are so correct we don't know what is going on in the parent's or child's life. it was so interesting working in school and we knew the moment they walked through the door if the student's who had ADHD hadn't taken their medication as they were literally bouncing off the walls!:-( hugs jan xx

Jan, your poem is written with such depth and heart! People are so fast to judge. Yesterday when I was in the store a young boy kept screaming. I thought to myself he must have a problem. His mother ignored it and kept shopping. Possibly it was she who had the problem and not him? Kudos to you for the work that you do. xxoo

Since i worked with students with additional needs I am so much more understanding when I see a child having a 'melt down'. As for the poem I'm not sure if its what the sponsor is after and appreciate if it doesn't place in the contest as I don't think it gives 'advice' just making people more aware of the issues of parents with autistic children:-) hugs jan xx

As we age, most will become disabled to some extent. I couldn't possibly imagine living my entire life with a physical or mental disability. Stirring write, Jan.
