Keola-Sonnet-Martin Luther King, Jr.
Imagine perched above, you ride THE lofty throne Peering through pellucid skies to seek our MORAL truth You yearn to spread what people need; empathy ingrown To stare into transmutative hearts, from elderly to youth… Suddenly, your throne volplanes into a graceful ARC Your view, now curved, a myriad OF sights THE UNIVERSE so grand, folks pale to smooth and dark You cry as crisis BENDS what’s good, tears AT every right… THE journey must proceed; though lachrymose you feel Another ELBOW OF your trek; celebrate below For this great place watched JUSTICE rightfully appeal A moral victory, a beginning, where together, folks will grow…

Meghan, when you start a poem about MLK with the word, "Imagine", my mind can't help but go to "I Have A Dream". Wow, what a journey you take us on in this amazing sonnet. "You yearn to spread what people need; empathy ingrown / To stare into transmutative hearts, from elderly to youth". You have lovingly distilled much of the MLK dream into 12 short lines, keying on words such as moral, empathy, universe, journey, justice, victory, grow. There are tears that we are not yet there, but hope that we are growing to get there. I love the words Transmutative, pellucid, lachrymose, and volplanes. Well done, my justice-loving friend! I wish you all the best in the contest. Sending you a Soupmail. God bless ~ John
