Just Punderful

I'm such a serious sort Having very serious thoughts The top of my list of things to shun Would be the common or garden pun Slapstick also causes a frown My disbelief unsuspended about the falling down Such overtly scripted jokes Are hardly masterstrokes What really makes me laugh Is not a predictable gaff It takes something quite clever That I'd have expected never A punchline left of centre From a comedic experimenter So when I'm asked to be funny I get a pain in my tummy With the aim of joining in I found a pun that made me grin A Roman walks into a bar, holds up two fingers and says, "Five beers, please."
