Jumping In a Pile of Leaves

The wind whirls
Around the trees
To gather their foliage
Around their base.
Brown and red
With remnants of summer
In a sprinkle of green.
I feel a sudden
Rush of ecstasy
Jumping in a pile of leaves!
I land on my back
In this textural bliss
Hearing them crunch
As they soften
My landing.
The child within
Cheers with delight
Jumping
In a pile of leaves.

Jumping into leaves as a child was wonderfully fun, although getting the leaves out of my hair afterwards was quite a challenge . Fall is my favorite season, it sounds like it might be yours too. I still remember poems about leaves when I taught years ago. This poem brought them back to me and corresponding nice memories as well :)

Wow! Congrats! Thanks for sharing this... making me vicariously feel how is it to "jump in a pile of leaves" with delight since I live in an "Autumnless" country. God bless you.

Natasha, I can hear the crunch and feel your joy as your "little kid" jumps into a pile of leaves. So much fun! It is definitely a childhood joy that I occasionally indulge in even to this day! Congratulations on your win! Joyful blessings of the season to you.

Thanks Sam. I think that the texture and sound of the crisp leaves in autumn bring a similar joy as jumping in puddles. It was a nice theme for a contest. :-D

Thank you Linda. There's something out the warm colours of the autumn leaves that lifts the spirits even when they are spread on the ground. :-D
