Journey a Devotion Poem

JOURNEY — A Devotion Poem (For Jim) We have been blessed To make a thick book Of calendar pages, A long past to now With our passports Stamped across the continent Of the Unexpected. We Kept brave on joint Climbs over the peaks Of the high range of Difficulties; And been deeply affected By observing so many wonders On our voyages Over Surprised Sea. During this life together, We have encountered the Furies; Filibustered the Fates; Entertained Muses; Tried to help those with greater needs; Shared trials, delights and feasts With family, as well as recent Holidays alone with each other. And, all the years, shared Our home with darling cats and pups. We have followed the rule Of forgiving seventy-times-seven; Believed Love is God-given; Had occasions to carry each other. Across heavy traffic on the highways Of hard Elsewheres, of massive Unknowns; And we were often pelted with questions Pouring on us in sudden storms That only faith could calm. But I doubt either of us Has ever wondered If our love would last. For silence can still carry The conversing of our thoughts; Anticipation still lies in our meeting after being apart; And our hearts touch Through any distance In a testimony to the destiny And promise Exchanged in our first Moonlit embrace of each other. ————————————————————————————- (c) sally young eslinger 2/22 Thanks be to God…….

Only through the Holy Spirit can we love with an all-compassing love. Life together is not easy, but through His love and grace a couple can pull through. I enjoyed reading this work. Thanks for sharing and for dropping by my page. Sara

Wow, extraordinary write. Honest, heartfelt, something most of us can relate in the way of journeys and trials. I think Jim and you are very lucky to still have one another. And I think love carries through all distance and lifetimes. Beautiful read. Thank you.

I’ll check out your latest work…& True, I doubt Great works are written IN strife, tho may be caused by it… xoxo

Great use of metaphor and imagery. I suppose one would understand more if one knew who Jim is.

Victor, thought you knew Jim is my husband of four decades. And I hope all is well with you this weekend. Here in central kY, the sun has shone beautifully for two days; the trees are bare now tho the proud evergreens hold their deeper verdant greens silhouetted against the clear blue sky,; & I lie here under 3 blankets, thinking of you. Be well! y

As written, I do hope it is Part One of a tale. Inside me, it feels like it wants to be. I must put Milton, and Dante on audible perhaps to btrah through the creative cocoon. I’ve been quite I’ll lately, unable to draw, but the poetry has come well, I think, and often. The up and down, in and out of my embroidery stitches keeps me in a sort of continuing prayer, perhaps bringing prompting lines. I’m embroidering an I-designed mother and child “icon”. Enjoy your weekend. Hugs!
