Mission San Jose, founded on June 11, 1797, is the 14th of the 21 Spanish missions established in Alta California. Located in the lands of the Ohlone-speaking peoples, it features a Mission Museum, a historic Church, a Cemetery, and a Garden. The mission played a significant role in the establishment of the settlement that became the modern city of Fremont. Today, it serves as a historical site where visitors can learn about its rich history and cultural significance.

Nestled where the hills embrace the sky, A pearl of faith in dust and time lies high. Its walls, like hands, in prayer remain, Holding whispers of joy and pain. Golden bells, like sunrise chimes, Sing of grace through shifting times. Yet echoes tell of tears once shed, Of Ohlone hearts left cold and bled. Beneath the cross, their voices fade, Names erased, their spirits caged. A candle flickers, frail yet bright, Both hope and sorrow share its light. And in its glow, the faithful see— The Jewel of Jesus and Chain of history.

This poem really fits the title of that challenge, Jay. What a lovely description of a church.

This is not free verse, this is rhyme and it is a divine poem. I hope you put it in the contest. Truly, Really - it is a great and fulfilling read. I would say, 'hearts left cold that bled' rather than 'and bled', but that in no way takes away from the quality of your ink. Tonight, I'm blessed to have free fallen thru Soup and land here. CayCay

Beautiful poem dear Jay ji. I enjoyed reading it. In every church and chapel the faithful see the jewel of Jesus.
