Jew # 15

There was an evening I always remember Amidst all ash still glow this sweet ember The old piano playing "I am five hundred miles away from home" And my heart sighing Away from Twickenham's green loam. Beside the little table I see him still His gravity firm, unwavering in his will And mother dear brought me With kindest hands, and trembling pride A little cup of tea While your fingers did over the ivory glide And before flashed another room to come And our children around us like orange blossom And I sitting just like him Drink their fragrance while honey bees sing Into the evening, and dim Room, where you a thousand joys would bring. I miss them too, you know, the lovely pair Miss opening the gate and she is smiling there Life is lent to us so brief And journey back in miles is long, is long O love, assuage now my grief To do the right, I must not employ the wrong.
