There was love and sorrow We shared the good and bad Never thinking of tomorrow We only thought of what we had ~ There was kindness and cruelty We had the dysfunction thrown in Not that we were really suffering We knew the meaning of friendship ~ There was acceptance and rejection We knew the best of both worlds Never sure of exactly where we stood We spent many days making up ~ There was apprehension and deliverance We spent a lot of time on these two Not willing to truly be fair with each other We were awash with unshed tears ~ There was gentleness and roughness We weren’t strangers to the pain Never wanting our hearts resentments We couldn’t get past all the bitter days ~ There was compassions and hatred We felt each one with full blown passion Not ever expressing any passing anger We always gave it with all we had inside ~ There was the truth and the lies We spent time shredding them both Never willing to believe without defiance We couldn’t trust each other most often ~ There was the best and the worst We yearned for the good, but couldn’t learn Not only were we caught up in this liaison We couldn’t bring ourselves to move on ~ There was true love, hope and faith We missed out on because we disgraced Not only the name of love, but the place We were spending our time in an abusive jail
