Jagged Shards

You left me late in the night
after all was done and said.
And my heart instantly broke,
waking to an empty bed.
You slipped away from my love
as sleep veiled my trusting eyes.
And my fear became real;
for you left with no goodbyes.
Love was a fantasy dream,
a mirage that broke apart.
And as the fragments shattered,
jagged shards impaled my heart
I'm teetering on the edge,
that defines sane from insane.
My heart is devastated;
and I can't conceal my pain.
Acid tears dissolve color;
leaving only shades of grey.
But I won't give up on hope
and pray you'll return someday.
