Jackhammer

If you could hear what I do You would surely have your fill For I’ve spent the past few hours Being blasted by a drill. They’re tearing up the street outside And that incessant noise Does much more than just annoy – Your concentration it destroys. I cannot hear my music And believe I’m on the brink Of relinquishing the brain cells That I need to stop and think. There are sounds that are acceptable But others make you crack Like the jackhammer outside Which feels akin to an attack!

You are absolutely right, Ilene! Some sounds are not friendly at all...and jackhammers top the list! Regards // paul

We live in a world of noises from every side! My tolerance for certain noises has shrunk considerably as I've aged. Horn blowing is but one of them! Another is the noise made by roofers in the area. I suppose it started with the Industrial Revolution when noise was seen as validation for progress. Thanks for stopping by, Ilene. / Maurice

You have my sympathy ilene, some third world regimes use noise as torture. Hope they get a move on and get the job done quickly for your sanity. Tom

I think that New York City has more jackhammers per square foot than any other city I know. Dubious Distinction, that. :) gw

I so relate. Noise, especially when it's incessant translates straight to insanity. I used to work near some pile drivers who were at it nonstop for about 4 weeks. I had the loony bin on speed dial. Great write, my friend.

Aye, but spare a thought for the chap who "chooses" to earn his living doing that! It doesn't take long for noise to render him useless! Aloha! Rico
