It Was One of Those Mornings

It was three o'clock in the morning and my body craved more sleep
I'd been out all night with friends and just fallen into slumber deep
when the defective smoke detector started going off - BEEP! BEEP!
I couldn't get the batteries out, and fell off the ladder into a heap
Called the maintenance man, didn't answer his phone...the creep!

A tranquil Saturday morning to spend with my husband and pup
Smelled the delicious aroma of coffee,  my love brought me a cup
"There's waffles and bacon with hot maple syrup coming right up.
He came back moments later, on the tray was a single buttercup.
"Happy Anniversary, Honey.  Tonight I'm taking you out for sup."
